If a sheet of paper is held horizontal and then released, why doesn’t it fall straight downwards to the floor?
I have a rough idea of why this is but not enough to explain it fully. I need to know in terms of air resistance and drag force on the sheet of paper, as well as any other relevant forces. My best guess would be that relative to the sheet of papers weight, the drag force acting on it would be huge, but i have no idea why this would make it fall the way it does.

This is due to the upthrust caused by the air column below the sheet of paper, which is proportional to the surface area of the sheet when it is held horizontal.
